About

Fatmire Nura Zeka is a contemporary multi-media artist from Kosovo. Her work extends across drawing, paintings, video photography, sculpture, performance and writing. Fatmire’s background nurtures a rich body of works that express reoccurring ideas from her pre-war and post-war (1998 – 1999) experiences and present them about today’s global events. Her art utilizes material culture and overconsumption, which clutter our day-to-day lives. These objects serve as detritus, leaving her with traces of memories and fuel for her art.
‘My intention is not for my art to be political. It begins with the poetic and of its own accord, is political. Indeed, my art responds poetically to political and social injustices. These injustices, for me, are the negligence of developing new artists, particularly female artists. I like to explore the theme of appearance versus reality in my art and interpret my surroundings differently through writing and presenting these ideas in a surrealistic way. My passion for fashion and performance inspires me to draw musical fantasies in charcoal using oil paint, allowing them to evolve. Through this process, I mend my heart and deeply empathise with others.’
Fatmire’s urge to capture experiences, and also while creating, gives her a skilled hand with the camera. Using photography and video documentation, she uses photographs as sketches brief and fleeting stills that can be appreciated as art on their own and used to fuel her art in other mediums. She promotes her video photography online, using media platforms such as Instagram to bring her art to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
