About

Georgina Stone (b. 1996 UK) is a London based painter who graduated from The University of Brighton with a BA in Fine Art Painting in 2018 and the Royal College of Art in 2024 with an MA in Painting.

Stone’s practice focuses on the visceral, the physical, and the psychological natures of painting. She approaches her paintings as an unfolding process, allowing the work to develop through various methods and approaches.
Stone operates a considered material practice yet celebrates a playful unknowingness and reaction through encounter. Using a ‘push and pull’ relationship with the often heavily layered surface, she reveals both history and doubt. Stone tends to conceive through an internal logic rather than a premeditated intent; this interplay in the artwork between control and whimsy is where tension is created.
The action of painting is a performance for Stone, engaging the entire body and utilising various instruments in the form of paintbrushes: nails, sticks, pens, and her hands, creating a magnitude of marks and engaging her to rework the surface. Throughout her practice, she weaves subtle references to the intricate relationships between childhood nostalgia, femininity, and the quintessential imagery of vintage Disney films. These elements serve as a backdrop, highlighting the complex interplay of innocence and idealism with the more nuanced and sometimes darker aspects of reality.
