About

Shuang Jiang (b.1999) is an artist from China currently living and working in London. Her work includes oil paintings, printmaking, installations, and video.

Shuang Jiang’s works are mainly inspired by her deep concern for the vulnerability of the individual and the intrinsic connection between nature and the individual. They reflect her different stages of psychological state and introspection. The figures in her works are primarily derived from a series of prints made from sheepskin. She has an affinity for sharp things and eyes that look like wounds. These images are not merely reflections of external forms but manifestations of her innermost struggles and triumphs, each stroke of the brush representing a cathartic journey into self-awareness and understanding. Within these works, she embraces the tension between fragility and resilience, capturing the essence of the human condition as it intertwines with the elemental forces of nature.

Through her art, Shuang Jiang seeks to illuminate the universal truths that bind all individuals: the transient nature of life and the eternal cycle of decay and renewal. She believes that within every individual lies a microcosm of the universe, a spark of consciousness that reverberates with the rhythms of creation. As she immerses herself in this exploration, she discovers a profound interconnectedness with the cosmos, merging seamlessly with its vast and unfathomable depths. After her life has decayed, she becomes everything, never truly vanishing. Delving into her inner self, she perceives a profound interconnectedness with nature, merging into and being enveloped by the universe’s elements.
