About
Gabrielle Jin (金芷若) is a multidisciplinary artist and astrologist based in London and Chengdu. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Photography from the University of the Arts London, London College of Communication, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Photography at the Royal College of Art.
Jin’s artistic practice blends installations, paintings, and images. Her creative process is deeply rooted in exploring the relationship between emotions and materials and the transformative power of art therapy, combined with observations of human nature and an interest in the field of philosophy.
Garden Tea Break is a mixed media installation that combines various techniques to explore themes of emotion and self-discovery.
The idea for Garden Tea Break began with garden photographs taken through twisted glass, which were then transformed into four oil paintings. Alongside these are several small epoxy resin sculptures on paving slabs, creating a contrast between ‘indoor and outdoor’ , ‘blurred and sharp’ and ‘softness and rigidity’.
At a time when exhibitions are dominated by digital technology and virtual experiences, Jin wants to emphasise the role of artworks made from primitive materials in evoking self-awareness in the audience. Through this work, Jin also hopes to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere for the public to immerse themselves in and feel the healing of the soul.
