About
Michelle Mendieta Mean is an artist and photographer based in London, England. Mendieta has an MA in photography at the Royal College of Art and a BFA in Fine Art from the University of Oxford.
Notable exhibitions include the group show ‘Holding Time’ held at the ‘Avalon Cafe’ in London, where the artist showcased their work and co-curated the exhibit in 2023. This artist was awarded the Machin Prize for their artwork that was the centre piece for the Royal Drawing School’s Young Associates Exhibition in 2017 and the New Photography Prize at the RCA in 2024.
As a multimedia artist, Mendieta draws from their background in painting and installation art to inspire a fusion of media in their practice, often drawing ideas from their own paintings and developing these into photographic series. This British-Ecuadorian, gender non-conforming artist delves into themes of spirituality, philosophy and queer representation, enhancing their unique perspective and approach to image making.
