About

This project ‘The Entrance Hall’ is a photographic installation project. In this project, I took myself as the main subject, and found a series of amusement facilities with expressive tension as the background to create a series of portraits. On the basis of photography works, I combined briefcases and cartoon toys, two props with great contrast and conflict, to complete the presentation of an art installation.

My work tells a story about me as an adult looking back on my childhood. I live in a restrained, strict and repressed Asian family, and my parents have been trying to help me grow up to be a mature and stable person. So I kept abandoning the freedom of childhood, romance, and imagination in order to grow into an adult. But that’s not who I think I am. Therefore, I try to create an absurd atmosphere to express my confusion and resistance to the reality, and also represent a possibility different from traditional concepts and practices.

I work in the form of, but not limited to, photography, installation, and sculpture, ranging from the studio to the street, and from the personal to the interactive. Focusing on my own sense of personal identity on a cultural level, I try to provide a witty yet darkly humorous comedic approach that challenges inherent definitions.

I try to detach myself from daily life, re-examine my situation and social environment, and explore my inner true self in terms of gender temperament, psychoanalysis, and cultural traditions. I hope to use art as a means of expression to resonate this self-reflection with the audience.
