Artist Biography:
Sonia Shi (b. 2001, Beijing) is an interdisciplinary fine artist who lives and works in London and Beijing. Having relocated to the UK in 2017, her practice encompasses painting, metal, sculpture and photography. Recently graduated from her MA at Royal College of Art, she completed her BA from London College of Communication, University of the Arts London in 2023.
Artist Statement:
“Having relocated to the UK in 2017, I developed an interdisciplinary practice that encompasses painting, sculpture and photography. Immersing traditional Chinese ink and Gongbi techniques in Western mediums. In my artistic practice, my philosophy revolves around materiality, where I reinterprets the provocative potentials of everyday objects as my expressive language and I am also introducing 3D innovative technologies in the sculptures.”
