About

I am Yan Yang, a photographer from Chengdu, China. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in photography from Budapest Metropolitan University and later pursued a master’s degree in photography at the Royal College of Art in the UK. From a young age, I have been passionate about arts, with a strong interest in literature, music, and film. Film, in particular, became the main catalyst for my journey into photography. The streets were where I began my photographic exploration.

I have a profound fascination with the history of photography, which has led me to focus on analog film photography as my primary creative medium. In my work, I discover an indescribable melancholy. Each photograph serves as a farewell to the fleeting present. In today’s image-saturated era of selfies, I believe that every selfie will eventually become a relic of the past. Therefore, photography, in my eyes, is a poetic act of romanticism.

My photography places a strong emphasis on composition. Many of my works are shot in ordinary everyday settings, attempting to find the extraordinary in the mundane and to seek order in a chaotic world. Photography blurs the line between reality and illusion, shaping a part of human perception in today’s society. There is always a mysterious connection between photography and truth, and it is this sense of mystery and the impulse to capture a moment that fascinate me.

In my work, photography is not just a tool for documentation but a means of exploring the inner world and expressing emotions. Through my lens, I capture moments of life, revealing deep emotions and meanings hidden beneath the surface of the everyday. My work is both a reflection of reality and a quest for illusion, presenting a unique perspective and style.
