About

Yiyang Liao (born in 2001) is a photography artist from China, currently based in London, UK.

He works primarily with large format cameras and traditional darkrooms. His work revolves around themes of time, poetry, the relationship between the body and nature, and focuses on exploring the power of the image itself.

“Continuum” is a series of works created using traditional photographic techniques. Through this series, Liao aims to challenge our conventional perception of linear time. Typically, humans perceive time in a linear way, experiencing each moment as it comes. However, photography has the potential to disrupt this linear order. “Continuum” seeks to question and challenge our linear understanding of time through the medium of photography. Each photograph in this series is not merely a snapshot of a single moment but a representation of multiple dimensions of time.

By controlling the duration of light exposure on different areas of the film, Liao explored the inherent fluidity and eternal motion of time and the natural environment. These techniques allowed him to capture a profound and complex view that transcends the confines of a single instant.
