About
As an artist born in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang, China, and educated across continents, my work is deeply rooted in exploring the invisible pressures of modern society. My artistic journey, spanning from the University of Sydney to the Royal College of Art, has shaped my unique perspective on the human condition in our contemporary world.
My art serves as a conduit for materializing the intangible anxieties and constraints that permeate modern existence. Through intricate interplays of lines and colors, I metaphorically represent the myriad unseen forces—societal expectations, technological surveillance, and cultural norms—that subtly yet powerfully shape our behaviors and identities.
Photography, to me, transcends mere image-making; it is a profound tool for expression and a window into alternative realities. I am particularly drawn to the medium’s ability to capture stillness, viewing it not as a limitation but as a potent means of distilling complex narratives into singular, resonant moments.Central to my work is the exploration of the dichotomy between “seeing” and “being seen.” This theme allows me to delve into the societal mechanisms of observation, judgment, and evaluation that individuals constantly navigate. By focusing on this relationship, I aim to unveil the often overlooked processes through which society scrutinizes and categorizes its members.
I believe in the power of photography to evoke a multitude of interpretations, each unique to the viewer. This multiplicty of meaning is what continually inspires my practice and drives my pursuit of deeper photographic exploration. Through my work, I invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences of visibility and invisibility in the modern world, encouraging a dialogue about the shared yet often unspoken pressures we all face.
