Haowen Zheng 郑淏文
About
Haowen Zheng is an art activist from China. During his MA Print stage, he engages in both art creation and curatorial practice, dedicating himself to the exploration of the “ART EVENT” concept that merges the two. The core of this field lies in “Print for the event” and “Printing of events,” meaning the use of images to serve events and the replication of events.
In terms of art creation, Haowen Zheng’s visual language is deeply influenced by elements of traditional Chinese aesthetics and folk visual styles. His works mainly focus on the backdrop of the decline of China’s real estate economy, youth involution and talent waste, the solidification of existing systems, and the transformation and loss of customs and culture during transitional periods. He utilizes the traditional art form of paper craft as a vehicle and metaphor for these issues, combining painting, handicrafts, printing, modeling, and AICG to create virtual or physical ritual spaces, exploring the concept of ritual as an art event.
In his curatorial practice, Haowen Zheng, along with his ART CONTAINER team, is currently planning and advancing three major projects: the fourth phase of the Custom Generation Project “Loong Retrospective,” “Cranial Sea Meets Mountain,” and “Upon the Field of Narrative Collection: Material Evidence for the Oral Epic.” Among these, “Loong Retrospective” is a virtual exhibition that deeply explores and showcases the Year of the Dragon in Longchang, Sichuan. “Cranial Sea Meets Mountain” and “Upon the Field of Narrative Collection: Material Evidence for the Oral Epic” utilize existing works and exhibitions to conduct academic research and discussions on the concept of “ART EVENT.”
