About
My work disrupts and pushes the boundaries of the traditional representation of landscape, asking questions of connection, timelessness, and impact through family archival photographs and sculptural print.
Being raised and living in a rural landscape I draw from the ever-shifting environment that surrounds me, exploring the relationship with the natural land that I have known since childhood. I am curious to form questions as a personal response to the crippling costs within small farming livelihoods, manifesting itself as a desperate plea for survival all while exploring this feeling of space and place. Disrupting and pushing the boundaries of the traditional representation of landscape, asking questions of connection, timelessness, and impact through archival photos and found objects exposing the complex layers of farming as a true reflection of my own experiences. Presenting the raw emotions through photo etching, photopolymer, screenprint and exploring the nostalgia of memory through found objects from a different time and history from the farm.
Using print as a sculptural immersive experience, I intended to create an environment where the viewer has a sense of being cut off from the outside world. A true reflection of the farming community, isolated and cut off with no voice. I wanted the installation to reflect this feeling. Making a space that was small and uncomfortable, yet has a sense of warmth and endearment reflecting the personal feeling of the farm, the frustration of feeling unheard and the feeling of being home.
