Xinyue Shen
About
Xinyue Shen(Sylvie) is an illustrator and print artist. Her works explore the subtle observations of human mental activities and behaviours. She prefers the overlooked details of daily life to grandiose scenes and magnificent expressions of emotion. And deeply observes and records those momentary emotional and behavioural reactions.
Her creative process is like capturing and interpreting the unseen air, thus she extensively uses the expression of blind embossing in her works. She usually starts with the tiniest details, such as people’s instinctive reactions in different social situations. People decide their actions and improvise through subtle observations.
Through these observations, she tries to reveal people’s true reactions and inner turmoil in various situations. This is an exploration of the psychological world of others, as well as a dissection and understanding of the inner self. By zooming in and digging deeper into these subtle psychological activities and behaviours, she hopes to bring deeper empathy and interpersonal understanding to the audience.
