Xueyun Wei
About
Xueyun(Yuan) Wei, from China, is currently based in London, UK. Her work includes illustrations, prints, and publications. Most of her works are inspired by her real-life experiences and reflections. In her opinion, her life experiences, cultural background, as well as her views and attitudes towards society, are the sources of her art creations. It is these experiences that create her expression of art. At the same time, it also influences her choices and forms of expression in her creations. She usually focuses on niche groups and explores issues that are easily ignored by mainstream society. Through her works, she hopes to convey warmth and healing emotions to the public.
In her creative process, she often looks to literature, film, and television for inspiration to support what she wants to express. She has explored topics related to death and empathy by reading books such as The Seventh Day and To Kill a Mockingbird. Current discussions about the representation of marginalized groups and the role of empathy have also influenced her work. In addition, her personal experiences and upbringing in China have also played an important role in her artwork.
She enjoys working with mixed media. In her opinion, technique, material, and form are all vehicles for conveying content. She combines different materials and techniques, and through the process of experimenting with different materials and media, she is able to express her emotions and stories in a more diverse way.
Through her work, she hopes to draw attention to neglected issues and minority groups. At the same time, she expects the audience to find empathy with her work and their own experiences and emotions, thus gaining inner strength and comfort. As she continues to explore these themes, she hopes to further develop her ability to convey powerful messages through art.
