About

Each object carries the weight of everyday experiences. Working across sculpture, installation, drawing, sound, and text, Amanda Cornish uses materials in a state of flux or found items from industrial and domestic environments: old clothing, soap, industrial rust, and medical latex. Through minimal intervention, their histories are preserved while being transformed into philosophical exploration, creating a meditative space of restoration and acceptance.

Acknowledging the ambivalence between internal and external fragility and fortitude, she creates immersive landscapes where contrasting elements coexist to foster a sense of quiet.  Cornish is interested in harnessing the pause—the gap between object and space—to move beyond an initial sense of unease, to unfurl the sensory and visual aesthetic of stillness.

Amanda Cornish currently lives and works in London. Following the Graduate Diploma Fine Art programme (2022-23), she continued at the Royal College of Art, where she is currently completing  a MA in Sculpture (2023-24). Prior, she studied at Chelsea School of Art (1985-87). She has exhibited internationally in group shows, including in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and New York, and had solo exhibitions at Mumford Fine Art (London, 2006) and The China Club (Hong Kong, 1994). She had been the recipient of several awards, including the DRAW19 Monochrome Prize (2019), the NOA Heart of England Award (2016), and the RSMA Charles Pears Award (1996).
