About

I am Ningxin Kong, born in Jiangsu, China, in 2000. As a contemporary artist, I primarily engage in sculpture, installation, and moving image creation. I find inspiration in my daily life through the transformation of materials or the combination of existing elements. My practice delves into studying the body, gender, and its relationship to biopolitical power. My work often highlights themes of female labor, physical awakening, gaze, politics, and expression. I focus on promoting diversity and inclusion in gender roles, advocating for respect and equality for all individuals. My art draws attention to the social and political issues surrounding labor in a global context, particularly the often overlooked and undervalued “housework” performed by women in the roles of “wife” and “mother“. These works, frequently done in the name of love, reflects the constraints imposed by societal expectations.

Additionally, I explore women’s freedom of choice regarding their bodies, emphasizing the personal and political dimensions of this autonomy. Living in a patriarchal society poses significant challenges, as thinking and experiencing life as a woman often requires navigating numerous societal barriers. Through my art, I strive to shed light on these issues, fostering a dialogue about the necessity for change and the empowerment of women in all spheres of life.
