Digital Direction (MA)

About

I am a spatial storyteller and filmmaker from the RCA Digital Direction 2024 cohort, with an interest in immersive and interactive Virtual & Mixed Reality experiences with a fondness for eco-centric narratives. I explore themes of environmentalism, sustainability and decolonisation of narratives around nature and indigenous identities. My projects at the RCA include ‘Roots to the Universe’, an immersive retelling of the indigenous Gond community’s story of creation, and the Interactive, Immersive VR experience titled ‘Whale Fall’, about the impact of plastic pollution on Marine Ecologies. Whale Fall is a Terra Carta Design Lab 2024 finalist and being exhibited as part of London Design Festival, and has also been exhibited at IRCAM Festival in Paris, SXSW’s RCA Showcase, Digital Creative Network Exhibition in London and as a workshop for RCA Green Futures Day.

My background includes activism and storytelling for climate and social justice, and I’ve participated in peace marches across seven countries, including India, the UK (with Climate Activist Pushpanath during COP-26), Belgium, France and Armenia, walking over 2000 kilometres for Peace and Justice. Prior to my explorations with XR (eXtended Reality) storytelling, I have been working in the Indian Film Industry in Post Production, Editing and Direction. I have had Editing and Post Production roles in films such as Mirzya, Mere Pyaare Prime Minister and Saaho. My works Inspector Matadeen on the Moon (short film, 2016), Vandevi (Short film, 2019) and Jai Jagat in Armenia (non-fiction music video, 2020) have been awarded in film festivals in India and internationally. I was also featured in the Indian Daily Newspaper Patrika’s ‘40 Under 40’ power list of young change makers in 2023.

Beyond work, I love to travel and learn about cultures, play Sitar and when possible, cosy up with a book and some hot chocolate.

My social handles are @jayforcinema (Instagram, LinkedIN, Youtube)
