Riya Mahajan
About
Riya Mahajan is a graphic designer and 3D visual artist from India, with an MA in Digital Direction from the Royal College of Art, London. She holds a Bachelor of Design in Graphic Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India’s leading design school. Riya’s professional journey is marked by collaborations with leading communication design studios and global clients such as Adobe. Her work encompasses a diverse range of projects, including environmental branding, editorial design, 3D and immersive experiences. Notably, Riya has collaborated with industry luminary Nick Knight at SHOWstudio and has had her 3D artworks showcased in Times Square, NYC, and at SustainLab’s ‘Co-creating with Nature’ exhibition at the Royal College of Art, London.
Riya’s work reflects her passion for crafting impactful and life-centered visual narratives. Her team’s venture, DeepDive XR, has been recognized for its innovative storytelling approach to addressing environmental issues through immersive technology, being shortlisted among the top 10 finalists for the Terra Carta Design Lab funding for their project ‘Whale Fall.’ This Virtual Reality experience highlights marine plastic pollution and its impact on whales, providing an interactive deep-sea environment for audiences. Whale Fall was showcased at the Outernet in London, IRCAM forum in Paris, the SXSW RCA showcase, the Digital Creative Network and the London Design Festival. Additionally, Riya’s project ‘Headway‘ showcases her dedication to human-centred design, creating inclusive and accessible art experiences for individuals recovering from brain injuries. Her final collaborative project, ‘Moody Monsters,’ explores children’s perspectives on emotions through a co-creation workshop. This initiative resulted in a digital sculpture garden that aids in building emotional literacy, allowing children to express and understand their feelings in a creative and engaging way. Riya’s work consistently demonstrates her passion for using art and design to foster human connection and address significant social and environmental issues.
Riya’s work has been featured in prominent publications such as Adobe Blog, Adobe DiscoverandDesignIndia Magazine. Her accolades include winning the Adobe 36 Days of Type challenge in 2021, receiving the Adobe Creative Residency community fund, and securing the Kyoorius Young-blood Awards for board game and brand campaign designs. She has conducted 3D and XR workshops at prestigious institutions such as the Royal College of Art, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, and on platforms like Skillshare.
