Xueying (Shirly) Zhang

Digital Direction (MA)

About

I’m Xueying Zhang, a video and digital designer based in London, Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Digital Direction at Royal Collage of Art.

My undergraduate study in Digital Media Art has provided me with a wide range of expertise in interactive design, game development, film production, 3D animation, etc. Through immersive digital art and interactive media, I hope to use my experience and creativity in conjunction with modern technology to further explore new forms of expression and creation in the digital age. I want to give my audience a thought-provoking, empathetic experience that combines the real and the unreal, allowing us all to ponder and seek a deeper comprehension of design outcomes.

SYNTHETIC LOVE

My recent work Synthetic Love Project is a digital film created using techniques such as Blender and Luma AI. It investigates the trends in relationships between humans and artificial intelligence. The main research question is: How does AI affect emotional connections amidst the increasing number of single people and the declining marriage rates in modern society? The goal is to encourage young audiences, within the context of capitalism, to reflect on the issues surrounding AI, emotional connections, and privacy.
