About

Sonnie Carlebach is an artist in search of texture through (and of) sound, body, and mind. His work is materially rich, contemplative, and mystical. Gracefully blending analogue and digital tools he constructs complex narrative performances from both universal and unique themes striking at questions surrounding change, meaning, and the human condition.

After studying Theology at the University of Edinburgh, Carlebach taught media to adults at SEND colleges in London and then lived at the De Liceiras 18 art residency in Porto.

In his year at the RCA he wrote made two books and produced two short films including ‘The Projectionist’ screened at the BBC television centre. He produced two exhibitions at Brompton Cemetery, including joint exhibition with RCA painting student Niko Raic.
Throughout the year he collaborated extensively with fellow IED student Ushara Dilrukshan with whom, under the stage name Cell Deletion 11, they performed live sound at the IRCAM Forum Paris, Brompton Cemetery, St Johns Bethnal Green, the Guild Hall, Peckham Audio, SET Woolwich, The Bath House Hackney, and more. Their graduate project, After Hunger, is a Nabokovian ode to the Very Hungry Caterpillar in five acts of theatre spanning monologue, tape looping, opera, and body art.

He wishes you a very pleasant day.
