<Infinite Layers> 2024 / VR Experience

Infinite Layers is a speculative project explores China’s urban villages through virtual reality, presenting an ‘infinitely vertically growing’ building that embodies residents’ lives and aspirations.

Applying Foucault’s concept of heterotopia, it frames urban villages as ‘other spaces’ within the city, questioning whether these unique enclaves can transcend the urban-rural binary and evolve into a sustainable third space.

Combining ethnographic research with speculative design methodologies, the project challenges traditional perceptions of urban villages and encourages critical reflection on urban development and social inequality.
