Fan Zhu is a visual artist and designer whose work critically engages with social issues, focusing on marginalized groups, environmental sustainability, and specific environmental cultures. With an academic background in visual communication and a passion for social advocacy, Fan creates thought-provoking art that encourages critical thinking and society. At the heart of Fan’s work is a commitment to using art as a tool for social critique and change. They believe that art should not only reflect society but also challenge its i ities and inspire action. Fan always prefers to employs a diverse range of visual languages, including books, installations, videos, and event planning. This multidisciplinary approach allows them to address complex social issues from multiple angles, creating immersive and impactful experiences for their audience. Their work is characterized by a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques, often utilizing eco-friendly materials such as recycled paper, sustainable fabrics ,environmentally friendly printing and so on.
Fan’s graduation design project “Waste or Reuse,” A physical outcome made from a series of workshops. This project not only showcases the hidden issues about sustainable fashion but also engages viewers in a critical dialogue about the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry. These works interrogate the fast update speed phenomenon by juxtaposing environmental effects against the consumerism issue behind fast fashion. Addresses contemporaneous issues of human consumption and sustainability by resuscitating discarded fabrics through communication and visual art. This work is site-specific and is put in a withered environment, which echoes the tense relationship between the fashion industry and the environment.
