Jasmine Newman
About
Jasmine sits slumped, looking forlorn at her laptop. She is trying to work out what to say about herself, written as if an admiring stranger spent time writing about her.
Jasmine grew up in the leafy suburbs of Kent (UK). She took the tumultuous 55 minute train journey, into the big city of London, to study visual communication.
Jasmine visits Nanny in Westgate-on-Sea most weekends. They talk, and Nanny tells her stories. She often repeats them. On one visit she took home a Tobacco tin from Nanny, filled with buttons. She spent her masters exploring story telling through the vehicle of a button. Stories about Nanny, about safety and the domestic space. It accumulated in 6 buttons, 6 stories, 6 characters in a 6 act show. Titled: ‘Perfect Laughter’.
Jasmine is a versatile maker and feels strongly that craft is just as important as design.
Jasmine holds a bachelors degree from the University of Edinburgh in Textiles, where she specialised in print. Jasmine has worked with prestigious textile companies, ‘John Lewis’ and ‘Bespoke Atelier’, where she utilised her top-notch digital print and design skills.
Jasmine hopes to hear from you soon.
