Laura Hoyos Cardona
About
Laura is a Colombian-born, London-based designer working across multiple disciplines. She founded Hito Estudio where she explores the art of gathering around a dinner table (comedor) and translates the act of eating into a multi-sensory and artistic experience. Her curiosity drives her to make things by hand, in diverse media, encompassing metal, wood, print, and others.
By navigating her memory and doing ethnographic research on others’ stories, the project Mesa de Oro results in a series of artefacts that evoke visual curiosity, encouraging people to gather, often around a dinner table, to exchange, share, and explore togetherness. Tomato cups, a gathering vest, an arepa holder, and more.
Before coming to the Royal College of Art, she graduated as a Product Design Engineer and studied a post-graduate Art and Art History course in Paris.
