Maya Katz

Visual Communication (MA)

About

Maya is a graphic designer based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
She focuses on forming visual narratives through exploration, design and creative production processes.

Maya specialises in turning concepts into unique visual language. Her work incorporates storytelling, image-making, branding, motion, and creative development through research and experimentation.

During her MA at the Royal College of Art, she explored concepts and theories related to Body Image. Her final project, THE GAZE, presented a film and a book that delved into the complexity of representation and perception. Investigating the roles of the observer and the observed, the project aims to return ownership and agency to the female body.
The project drew inspiration from Laura Mulvey’s essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema (1975) and aspired to challenge traditional narratives that perpetuate the objectification of women and promote the male gaze.

Before her MA, Maya completed her bachelor’s degree from Holon Institute of Technology. Afterwards, she worked as a senior designer within the creative division at the media company Ananey (a subsidiary of Paramount).

As she graduates with her MA in Visual Communications, Mays is eager to continue her professional journey. She is passionate about the design process, from developing a new visual language to producing final products. Throughout her career and studies, she has strived to work on innovative projects, expand her skills, challenge herself, create collaborations, and be a part of a creative team.
