Visual Communication (MA)

About

Nicky Raysa is a visual storyteller based in London. Her works revolve around the depths of human emotion and faith, combining themes of melancholy and tranquility. Born in Sumatera, Indonesia, and raised in a Christian family, she experienced a life-changing encounter with God at the age of 14, which transformed her life and shapes her creative journey. Her work spans digital illustration, drawing, and painting, which are also part of her meditative and contemplative experience.

In her graduate project, she created two illustrated poetry books that reflect her testimony of God’s goodness. The first book titled “Where I Belong”— exploring themes of desperation and hopelessness, which gradually transition into a journey of spiritual discovery and finding solace in God. The second book titled “As Spring Dawns” — exploring the themes of spiritual growth, resilience, and the transformative power of faith. It depicts journeys through adversity, where God’s presence brings solace, strength, and renewed hope. In this project, she experimented with charcoal, gouache, and watercolor, examining how each texture evokes people’s emotions. She transformed her illustrations into an art installation by stitching them together, using this technique as a metaphor for her journey of walking with God, which has profoundly shaped her identity.
