Saja Quttaineh was born and raised in Jerusalem. In 2021, Quttaineh Completed her B.A degree in the photography, department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. She completed her M.A degree in Visual communication at the School of Communication in the Royal College of Art, London. Her works focus on documentary photography to reflect socio-political reality. Quttaineh is an analogue photographer, which gives another layer to the artwork by returning it to the beginning of photography as a contemporary film photo.

Saja worked on an Independent Research Project named J2 which included three books, The project consists of three books documenting Jerusalem’s West Bank neighbourhoods (J2) through photos and maps. The J2 Photobook features images on 120mm and 35mm films, highlighting these areas’ complex and precarious identity amid the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The J2 Location Book maps each photo’s location, emphasizing their identity. Portrait of J2 explores neighbourhoods’ cultural, social, and political layers through detailed photo compositions and cutouts, collectively addressing the shifting identities and fears of land loss.
