About

Tong Liu’s project aims to bridge the digital divide for rural children in China by 2050, enhancing their educational opportunities. The project focuses on multiple influencing factors, including family, community, educators, and self-fulfillment. Despite frequent technological interventions, their impact has been limited, with traditional education models still dominant. To effectively improve education, system optimization and the right sequence of actions are crucial. Therefore, Tong Liu envisions four future scenarios based on different action sequences: unschooling, education outsourcing, digital-assisted teaching, and schools as learning centers. She has deeply explored the unschooling model to achieve educational equity and quality improvement.

Tong has transitioned from a cross-disciplinary artist to a designer and researcher, consistently focusing on marginalized groups through various perspectives. She strives to break free from linear thinking about the future, offering more possibilities for marginalized populations to tackle unforeseen challenges.
