About

I am Zhencheng Jiao, an interior designer with a strong interest in mental health and self-healing. Empathy is my design value; I believe that designers should create more inclusive spaces. In my previous projects, I have mainly focused on mental health, intimate relationships, and vulnerable groups, planning spaces for them and hoping to speak up for these groups through my designs.

Regarding my Independent Research Project, the ‘Healing Oasis’ project envisions the future of art healing for Chinese office workers in 2040.  Through innovative space and interactive design features, I introduce new art forms as healing experiences in future office spaces. I have divided the space into group and individual areas, incorporating various healing methods and immersive interactive experiences to promote the emotional health and self-growth of the office workers. Supported by progressive government policies and corporate initiatives, my project ensures full recognition of art healing, creating a harmonious, balanced, and productive workspace for the future.

To achieve this vision, I developed four outcomes: a research booklet with comprehensive research and interviews demonstrating design futures methods; future scenario analysis and visualization with a timeline, stakeholder map, scenario design, and visualizations of a 2040 Chinese office worker’s life, illustrating future office art healing spaces; the Flowsync Self-Healing Interaction, a prototype combining music and dance healing; and a detailed policy analysis of art healing in 2040 with a timeline from 2024 to 2040, ensuring understanding of necessary government support and regulations.

During my MDes in Design Futures at the Royal College of Art, I explored various interactive technologies and future scenario planning methods. Combining the concept of healing, I created a methodology led by Envision Future to develop innovative design solutions that promote emotional health and personal growth.
