About
Throughout his academic career, Tian Xing has focused on innovative design processes, conceptual ideation, 3D modeling and rendering, product structural innovation, and ergonomics in product design. He is passionate about leveraging the strengths of existing products, optimizing them into tangible products, and iterating products to achieve the best results.
During his postgraduate studies, Tian Xing delved into the application of minimalist structural design methods and ergonomics in sitting, aiming to improve the health of people’s spine by altering the way they sit through modified product structures. His goal is to make products actively adapt to people’s behaviours and movements, and provide people with a more comfortable product experience in this interaction.
Individual Research Project Brief:
Sadow is an ergonomic office cushion designed to prevent and relieve spinal and lumbar pain caused by prolonged sitting and poor posture. Prolonged sitting is a public health issue that exacerbates damage to the back, muscles, nerves, and blood circulation. Current solutions, such as pain medication and expensive ergonomic chairs, are often ineffective and costly.
Sadow fills this market gap with a minimalist, cost-effective design using ABS plastic and stamping technology. Its mesh lining enhances comfort and breathability, and it is detachable, easy to clean, and suitable for various seating surfaces.
As Peter Opsvik said, ‘The best sitting posture is always the next one.‘ When people feel uncomfortable sitting on the Sadow after adjusting their posture more times, that means people need to move around. Sadow encourages users to adjust their posture and reminds them to move around, reducing the negative impacts of prolonged sitting.
