About

I am Flora Lindsay, an artist captivated by surrealism and driven by an innate curiosity. My journey into fashion design was inspired by the vibrant wardrobe of my iconic grandmother, which sparked my love for clothing and the endless possibilities it offers. I have always been particularly drawn to tailoring and suit-making, believing there is nothing quite like the elegance of a beautifully tailored suit.

My path took a significant turn in my early teens when I became a Christian, prompting me to reflect deeply on the meaning behind everything. This pivotal experience ignited a journey of self-discovery and purposeful design, which was further nurtured during my studies at the Royal College of Art. I developed a keen interest in exploring the intersections of self-respect, faith, and meaningful design.

In my work, I delve into the faith of young Christians today, highlighting the hope they bring to a fractured world. In our search for identity and purpose, fashion often becomes a medium of self-expression. The realisation that “there are enough clothes already in existence to dress the next six generations” (Ashton, 2021) profoundly impacted me. It led me to question the necessity of producing more garments in a world already saturated with material goods and to consider our deeper quest for genuine meaning and hope.

The question “Who am I?” has been a central theme in my work this year. Having found great strength through my faith, I seek to offer a glimpse into my community and the transformative impact of faith on our lives. By blending my love for tailoring and suit-making with Christian symbolism, I aim to create pieces that are not only visually compelling but also rich in spiritual significance. Through my designs, I aspire to emphasise the pursuit of authenticity and the profound influence of faith in a world often focused on superficial appearances.
