About
‘Dressing Is Easy’
If “an artwork isn’t an artwork until there is an audience interacts with the piece” (Walther, F.E.), then for Maggie, a garment isn’t a garment until it is dressed on to the body. This project explores the possibilities of dressing a flat piece of fabric on to the body, Maggie believes that “the final and most pure form of a necessary item is always constructed of geometric shapes” (Tschichold,2005). She started by researching the most simple form of dressing, and is caught attention to aprons. By using the mechanism of the apron i.e. Wrap and Tie, she manipulates the square shape on to the body and explores the interaction between the piece and the body. Presenting a 5-piece wardrobe from the square shape, this project is about doing reduction and simplification, clarifying of line, silhouette and content, take it to an minimalism approach which is rooted in accessibility, cleanliness and progress. “The real concept of modern luxury lays in features.“
