About
“We are trapped in the closet, locking the real part of us in.”
This is about my personal feelings about the narrow survival space for sexual minorities in society. The social visibility of sexual minorities in daily life is always very low. In a research in China, I found that nearly 80% of sexual minorities choose to hide their sexual orientation due to social discrimination or unacceptable family environment.
I am one of them.
In my communication with my family I know that accepting this situation is very hard for them. So I will probably continue to remain silent as well. This forced silence makes me feel like I’m trapped in the closet. The space is small, depressing and twisted, and this environment forces me to constantly change my body’s state to fit the rules of the closet.
