During her master’s studies in fashion at the Royal College of Art, she had the opportunity to explore more practical aspects of design and functionality.

Drawing from her experiences, Chu realized that prolonged use of digital devices has become a common issue today, often leading to poor posture and subsequent physical pain. However, the uptake of posture correction tools is low because they often appear too “utilitarian.” She questioned why these tools could not be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Starting with materials, she sought to make a difference. She focused on knitting different structures using elastic yarns and sent these samples to professional laboratories to obtain better data on relative elasticity and tension. Moving forward, she will continue to explore how to utilize this data, knowledge, and research to integrate posture correction tools into fashion design better.
