About
Menswear Designer, Bag Designer, Fashion Illustrator
Based in London and Beijing
Yujing Xiang is currently pursuing her second master’s degree in fashion at the Royal College of Art. I am passionate about fashion design and am committed to expressing unique creativity and ideas through my work.
During my time at the RCA, I developed an interest in bag design and dedicated this year to studying the application of backpack design. I love exploring different materials and techniques, striving for perfection in details, and incorporating cultural elements into my designs so that each piece tells a unique story. I enjoy discovering and utilizing interesting and recyclable materials around me, giving them new life to achieve sustainable fashion development. My design philosophy is centered on uncovering these overlooked resources and transforming them into unique and practical products. I firmly believe that every piece of discarded fabric holds endless possibilities. Through ingenious design and craftsmanship, they can be turned into new accessories, radiating fresh brilliance.
The everything bagel
My design inspiration comes from bagels, whose ring shape symbolizes infinite cycles. The closed and infinite nature of bagels metaphorically represents the cycles of time and life. Each loop signifies an iteration, and the endless ring extension symbolizes never-ending cycles.
Philosophically, the bagel’s image explores time and life’s cyclical nature. Nietzsche’s concept of eternal recurrence suggests that life and events repeat infinitely in the same way, akin to the bagel’s structure.
The bagel’s endless, closed ring structure expresses the cycles and repetition in time, life, and systems. Therefore, I use discarded and leftover materials in my designs, combining them with the bagel’s image to give new value to seemingly finished fabrics, creating a design that symbolizes infinite cycles.
