Caini “Iris” Liu
About
Caini Liu is a multidisciplinary designer working in industrial design engineering and design strategy. With a passion for physical and digital interaction, the human-object relationship, and enhancing everyday experiences, Caini integrates aesthetics, design, culture and technology to create innovative solutions. As a bridge between disciplines, Caini is dedicated to crafting experiences that resonate on both functional and emotional levels.
Caini has experience in product research and development at Philips, collaborating with multi-functional groups. While pursuing a master’s in Global Innovation Design, Caini delved deeper into service system design, speculative design thinking, tangible prototyping and leveraging advanced technology. For example, in the Movementora project, Caini utilised ArUco code and pose estimation technology to develop a customisable and affordable electronic training platform for economically disadvantaged athletes. In The Apple Game project, Caini designed a camera-based screen interaction game to encourage children to critically think about AI biases through mimicking target objects. Through studies and interactions in China, Singapore, and the UK, Caini developed her research methodology based on ethnography, transforming regional cultural insights into flexible applications within a global perspective. In her major project Scribe Expert, a product was designed and developed to digitise paper with a simple clip, empowering users with digital and AI capabilities while protecting human autonomy.
