Jillian Cai

Healthcare & Design (MRes)

About

Jillian is a healthcare strategist with a strong background in industrial design, entrepreneurship, and market strategy. She utilizes storytelling, speculative design, and ethnographic research to develop innovative solutions for social impact.

Jillian earned her BFA in Industrial Design from RISD, where she discovered her passion for healthcare design. In a world inundated with information and products, she is driven to create socially impactful solutions. For her, this drive is most immediately applicable in the medical industry.

After several years working in medical devices, healthcare startups, and an innovation agency, she pursued a Master of Research in Healthcare & Design at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London in 2022. Her research, initiated at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, focused on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) environment. The ICU can be overwhelming and complex, often leading to ICU Delirium, which negatively impacts patient outcomes and financially burdens hospital systems. Her thesis explored ways to improve the ICU experience for patients by empowering their visitors to provide better support.

Beyond her studies, Jillian has fostered a community of designers and healthcare experts to collaborate on innovative solutions. She is excited to connect with anyone interested in this unique intersection of creativity and social impact. For more work, please visit her website at jmcai.me.
