About

Hi, I’m Huei Suen (or Evelyn), an impact-led creative, practicing service design, user experience design and community building. I have a strong interest in solving modern social issues and environmental problems. I’m from Singapore and currently based in London.

I started designing in 2019 while earning my Bachelors in Information Systems from the Singapore Management University after being introduced to the Design Thinking methodology for innovation. Starting out as a self-taught designer, I took on a couple of internships, freelance work and co-authored two accessibility research papers in the ASSETS ’21: Proceedings of the 23rd International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility prior to graduation. This led to me landing my first full-time role in 2021 as a UI/UX Developer for digital transformation at Soon Aik Global, an automotive and industrial parts distributor, operating multiple subsidiaries such as Spare-Parts Zone Pte Ltd, Filtec Pte Ltd, Autozone Automotive Pte Ltd, and Traczone Pte Ltd with presence across Asia-Pacific region.

While working my first full- time role, I started sharing my story and found a niche on TikTok as @yourdesignbestie. Through content creation, I built a community around inspiring and educating others about navigating user experience design and career. I have created content for brands like User Flows and Jarvo.

I’ve always been passionate about creating change and impact. In 2022, I joined abillion.com, the sustainable consumer review platform for plant-based restaurants, products, brands and more. I’ve worked full-time as a UX designer and have co-led, researched and designed the marketplace seller experience, the personalised destination pages as well as many touchpoints and experiences on the web, iOS and Android app, for the platform’s primary markets in the UK, US and Singapore.

In 2023, I took a leap of faith and moved to London to pursue my Masters in Service Design at the Royal College of Art (RCA). During my time at RCA, I was able to explore and define my practice more closely to impact focused themes. I participated in the Ocean Decade Challenge by UNESCO as a team of five with Femke, Shao-Ching, Tian Kun and Ning Kang, to bring awareness to the climate impact on River Thames through a lighting installation reflecting the changing water levels, paired with an interactive app along the riverside walk which residents use for their walks. My most meaningful work yet, “The Heart of Conversation”, in collaboration with Vision RCL aims to prevent and reduce loneliness among socially isolated elderly in Redbridge through intergenerational contact and gameplay to foster meaningful interpersonal interactions between local elderly residents and youth volunteers. This project was inspired by the loneliness epidemic in the UK, my search for answers regarding my late grandmother’s suffering with dementia, and an earnest effort to spread the awareness and in hopes of reducing the risk contributed by loneliness towards dementia and other health challenges.
