Natasha Sajan
About
Hello! My name is Natasha Sajan. Prior to my year at the RCA, I pursued a Visual Communications undergraduate degree at Loughborough University, and later returned to my hometown, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where I worked as a multidisciplinary creative strategist on a number of Pan-African service projects. Having spent some time working on the creative side of some very worthwhile causes, I wished to round out my skillset by pursuing a degree in service design.
As a part of the RCA, being able to work with teammates, tutors and project audiences with a range of different lived experiences, ultimately allowed me to reflect on my own, and define my practice. As a designer, I am dedicated to:
- Excavating the past through modern possibilities; as practicing sustainability is a key focus of mine,
- Including the outlier; as accounting for diverse perspectives can lead me to answers that could automatically solve greater issues
- Working in harmony; as I value interpersonal relationships and prioritise helping my teammates feel understood in the same way I would like to be.
Being a part of this course has also taught me about the places I can improve myself. As a designer, I am working on balancing my strengths with the values of:
- Learning; as my passion to help is only strengthened by challenges that allow me to question what I know and improve the trajectory of a project more.
- Trust my intuition ; as honing in on my ability to run with my ideas can be solidifies with the ability to express and trust my vision.
Now that I’ve learned about who I am, I am excited to follow and work with the causes that excite me, which at it’s best, allows me to be an outlier in every room I’m in.
