About

Lydia Kok (b.1999) is a multidisciplinary knit designer exploring the interconnected relationships between humanity and the environment through material and visual narratives. Her ongoing series, ‘Can You Feel The Pulse of this Planet?’ imagines a world shaped by the rhythmic nuances of nature and adaptive characteristics, sparking thoughts on interesting biological responses and the resulting ripple effect on ecosystems, incited by changing climates.

Inspired by her personal connection with nature through her outdoor experiences such as hiking and scuba diving, she observes and documents her musings across diverse landscapes, such as the sea, the desert, and the forest; creating a body of work rich in textures, colours in harmony with their surroundings, and forms with an illusion of movement. She wants to write a fictional story where scientific accuracy intertwines with a whimsical interpretation of imaginative future world, following the journey of an explorer traversing these landscapes 150 years from now.

Her project also highlights the potential of knitted textiles to enhance urban landscapes and architectural spaces, providing tactile experiences that foster curiosity and develop a hopeful, playful connection between people and the natural world.
