Seongeun Lee(b. 1995) is a textile artist based in Korea and London. She explores fundamental concepts through three-dimensional soft sculptures using textiles. Her work aims to provide a more direct tactile experience through the unique materiality of textiles. Particularly, she focuses on the essential keyword ‘Existence,’ delving into existential thoughts and fundamental questions inherent in humans. In her “Arrangement series,” she expresses both the internal arrangements that constitute human life activities and subjectivity, as well as external forces, through textile sculptures.
External Arrangement (2024) is a work that visually represents the external force of “Gravity,” which influences human existence, based on the intense energy of ‘Yves Klein Blue’. The invisible yet immense force of gravity is visualized through the tension and wrinkles of the textiles.
Grey Arrangement (2024) is a work that expresses the neutrality and balance symbolized by the color grey. As a midpoint between black and white, gray represents the balance between positivity and negativity, lightness and darkness. Although neutral, gray is a versatile and powerful color, demonstrating freedom from boundaries, outlines, and other constraints.
TP Project (2024) is a collaborative project between Seongeun Lee (MA Textiles)and Bogyeom Kim (MA Design Products), featuring two works titled ‘DE 01 (2024)‘ and ‘DE 02 (2024)‘. This project emerged from a deep empathy for each other’s aesthetic values and an academic exchange of ideas, driven by curiosity about contrasting materials and techniques. It aims to create a new visual aesthetic experience. While metal provides structural stability and sturdiness, textiles add a sense of flexible vitality to movement and change.
