About

Wuhan Gao is a knitwear designer and she has been focusing on the ever-evolving exploration of upcycling and sustainable fashion. The theme of her project is “orange makes people feel warm” and the project revolves around the colour orange. The inspiration for the project comes from orange-coloured buildings and objects in our lives, When she first came to London, the architecture was different from her hometown, and it deeply attracted her.

She thinks orange colour can make people feel bright, and through the use of different proportions of orange and black, she am exploring how the collision of black and orange brings people’s feelings, and how the clothing makes people feel warmer.

Her design focuses on the environment. She wants to design a long life wearing, against the fast fashion. As part of her research, she collected orange objects, many of which are used packaging materials, such as Sainsbury’s broken plastic bags, and food packaging mesh pockets. She recycled these materials, by cutting them up and then combining them with knitting. She also uses these materials to create a new yarn which is made by knitting.
