About

Yuqi Xie is an mixed media artist passionate about exploring the intricate connections between different senses. Her work often seeks to bridge the gap between sight, taste, touch, and emotion, creating immersive experiences that invite viewers to engage with art in a multisensory manner.

Through her art project, “The Red Party,” exemplifies her artistic philosophy. In this installation, she delves into the question, “What does red taste like?” By combining elements of visual art, culinary design, and sensory experimentation, Yuqi aims to challenge and expand the traditional boundaries of artistic expression. The installation features a cake shaped like a meteor hammer and shuriken, symbolizing the contrast between the weapon’s traditional form and the sweetness of a red-themed dessert. This juxtaposition reflects the complexity of red as a color, flavor, and emotion—evoking passion, excitement, warmth, and intensity.

In her practice, Yuqi is particularly interested in how colors can evoke specific tastes and emotions, and how these associations vary across different cultures and personal experiences.

Yuqi strives to create spaces where viewers can experience art holistically, engaging multiple senses simultaneously. She believes that by tapping into the interconnectedness of our sensory experiences, art can become a more profound and transformative encounter. Furthermore, she aims to provoke audiences to reflect on the relationship between colors and sensory experiences, encouraging them to re-examine the details of daily life. Through interaction with the audience, Yuqi hopes to establish a new form of communication, making art not just a visual enjoyment but a comprehensive sensory experience.

Through continuous experimentation and exploration, she seeks to find new modes of expression in textiles art, allowing audiences to discover the allure of colors in her works.
