Ceramics & Glass (MA)
Introduction
Ceramics and Glass (C&G) sits within the broader remit of applied art practices but defines itself by the intensity of its medium specific approach. For students in C&G, the studio is an active laboratory for experimentation, of iterative testing and critical reflection. Following the ‘material’ is to enter a world of risk over certainty where creativity ebbs and flows, and craft (as verb) is an emergent process. The works in this exhibition open vistas onto powerful material narratives; mythic creatures brood, commentaries on socio-political histories vibrate, architectural forms complexly function, forms grow in and out of themselves like undulating organs, glass limbs flail around like feral neurons, bodily figures contort, personal and subjective stories are meditated with great skill, care, and empathy.
