Jewellery & Metal (MA)
Introduction
Jewellery and Metal (JaM) sits within the broader remit of applied art practices where conceptual and innovative explorations of the material world are palpated by embracing technologies whilst simultaneously peering behind the glossy surface of the digital image to the material realities that lie behind. Jewellery is a highly personal exploration of the flows of matter and meaning in which we are immersed. JaM students weave between art and design methodologies, foregrounding experimental material practices creating strange, beautiful, and uncanny worlds. Worlds where corners always stare at you, teapots grow ageing bellies, skins migrate off the body, potatoes listen, fungal bodies grow, cartographies of the body are reclaimed, quantum reflections filigree, stones physically reach out and link with each other, bodies squeeze in and out and through physical and contemplative spaces and mythic histories are invented.
