Print (MA)

A large workshop where students are using large roller presses to make prints.

Introduction

Print is a site of image/text multiplication and a process of sharing. It is the prehistory of social media and the web. Print is also a series of alchemical processes, some using stones, flames and acids, others using glitches, memes and AI. The history of thought and representation is carried in printed matter, inscriptions in rocks, traces of ink on paper. Through workshop inductions we give students practical tools to experiment with marks of all kinds. Archives are our material memory. Many students appropriate ‘found images’, releasing new stories. Students create publications, exhibitions and events exploring the broadest interpretations of print. We seek students passionate about these ideas and willing to risk critically engaging with the possibilities of images, texts and spaces of exchange.
